About Me
I love to make connections: between ideas and subjects, style and media. I think it comes from my eclectic background - the theatre, science, publishing, design. But whatever I have done it has always been with an eye for the unusual: a different angle, a new perspective. That is what informs my art. Whether in painting or photography my eye is drawn to colour, contrast, depth and shape. Every piece of work demands its own concept, medium, evolution and finale.
I work in whatever media the subject demands: encaustic waxes, acrylic, oils, photography metal leaf. Usually I will combine these to give each piece its unique finish. Working in mixed media is always exciting because the results can be so unpredictable - sometimes I stumble across an effect by happy accident and a new technique is born.
This is a fascinating world and I want to capture that sense of awe and wonder through the viewfinder or on canvas. Most of the time we live our lives staring at the ground missing the beauty that surrounds us. I can find inspiration anywhere: a simple shell, a piece of literature, a familiar garden flower. All too often we see these things without even looking at them. My aim, whatever the subject, is to find an angle that I hope will challenge and please the viewer in equal measure.
